Trustee of the Benevolent Fund of the Institution of Civil Engineers. Former positions include: chairman of Institution of Civil Engineers (West Midlands), governor of Aldersey Church of England Primary School, and chairman of Lord Chancellor's Advisory Committee for Coventry. Currently at Coventry Cathedral: lay canon, deputy chairman of Cathedral Council, secretary of Fabric Advisory Committee. Other interests: inland waterways, architecture and walking. Appointed 2001
